Vision

Background

Societal needs are steadily increasing. These include the still largely unpredictable long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, social challenges such as racism, bullying, and alcohol abuse, as well as profound changes in the future world of work driven by industrialisation 4.0. Another key issue is democracy, which in many schools—if addressed at all—is often treated only theoretically and is rarely embedded in everyday school life. These are challenges we address through our diverse areas of work. As an experienced, dynamic, efficient, digital, and learning organisation, we see ourselves as a reliable and strong partner.

We believe that young people in particular have the energy and the resources needed to stand up for their values and for a free and democratic society.

What We Envision

We aim to help children and young people discover their potential and further develop it. Unlocking their potential provides a valuable foundation for their future careers and for their active participation in society. It is important that democracy education is not limited to theory but is also practised and experienced in everyday life. Increasing opportunities for participation for young people is therefore essential. Strengthening Resilience is essential to help people navigate crises with as little harm as possible. Furthermore, we believe that the concerns and needs of children and young people must be taken seriously. We also believe that a positive view of human nature is essential.

The Magdeburg Manifesto developed by DeGeDe sets out in ten points why democratic education initiatives in Germany must be actively promoted. We put this socially desirable vision into practice through our daily work.

What Needs to Be Done

We call for mandatory standards for democracy education and the introduction of compulsory class councils in schools.
